RXBAR originated in 2013 when Peter Rahal and Jared Smith experimented with protein bar recipes in Rahal’s parents’ basement in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. They both haven’t enough money to invest initially but Peter and Smith decided to invest $10,000 each. They focus on creating simple and clean-label protein/nutrition bars made with complete ingredients like egg whites, nuts, and dates.

They found the gap in the market, which was the lack of simple food nutritious options at the time, particularly for fitness enthusiasts and CrossFit participants.

After finding the market gap they initially focused on marketing their bars directly to CrossFit gyms  And expanded the business online to reach more new customers and sales. The Rxbar products gained traction because of its simple ingredient list and minimalist packaging, which highlight transparency.

By 2017, just four years after its launch, RXBAR’s growth skyrocketed, achieving revenues of $160 million and successfully build the brand and attracting the attention of major food companies.
